I used the Orcatorch D710 as my primary light for about a year, logging around 50 dives with it. Today it serves as my backup, clipped to my chest D-ring on every single dive. I originally picked it because I needed something bright and reliable without breaking the bank. The D710 delivered on both fronts, and even now it remains one of the most dependable lights in my kit.

Yes. It performed well in cold quarry water, poor visibility, and during night dives. The beam is tight and focused enough to cut through haze, while still offering good peripheral spill.

I upgraded to the Orcatorch D720 for the adjustable beam. That feature gives me more control depending on what I need during a dive. The D710 still works great, but I wanted more flexibility.

Absolutely. It is smaller than many primaries but bright enough to serve as a full primary in an emergency. Since I know it works and I’ve trusted it for over 100 dives, I have no hesitation using it as my backup.

Nope. It has never failed to turn on, flood, or flicker. Battery life has remained solid, and the switch has held up without degradation. I’ve done no maintenance beyond rinsing and charging.

Yes. If you do not need beam adjustment and want a solid, bright, and affordable dive light, the D710 still holds up. It is a great entry-level primary or a dependable backup for any diver.

Why I Chose Orcatorch D710

At the time, I needed a light that could handle cold, low visibility quarry dives but didn’t want to spend the premium prices for technical brands. The D710 stood out for its lumen output, quality reputation, and price. I didn’t need a canister setup or adjustable beam. I just needed something that worked, and it did.

Verdict

The D710 exceeded expectations and held its own for 100 dives without a single failure. I eventually upgraded to the D720 to gain adjustable beam control, but I still take the D710 on every dive. It now rides as my backup, clipped to my chest D-ring, and I trust it fully to get me home if needed.

Would I buy it again? Yes. Especially if I needed a backup light or was helping someone build a first dive kit on a budget.

My Custom Setup or Configuration

I keep the D710 uncluttered, with only a bolt snap mounted on the tail. It lives on my left chest D-ring as a backup. No Goodman handle or mount, just simple and ready to go.

This configuration makes it easy to reach if needed, without interfering with my primary light or inflator hose.
