The Short Version

The D710 exceeded expectations and held its own for 100 dives without a single failure. I eventually upgraded to the D720 to gain adjustable beam control, but I still take the D710 on every dive. It now rides as my backup, clipped to my chest D-ring, and I trust it fully to get me home if needed.

Would I buy it again? Yes. Especially if I needed a backup light or was helping someone build a first dive kit on a budget.

What Works

  • Bright enough for all recreational conditions
  • Excellent reliability over time
  • Compact and easy to stow or clip
  • Affordable price point

What Doesn't

  • No beam adjustment
  • Poor battery indicator

My Experience

I used the Orcatorch D710 as my primary light for about a year, logging around 50 dives with it. Today it serves as my backup, clipped to my chest D-ring on every single dive. I originally picked it because I needed something bright and reliable without breaking the bank. The D710 delivered on both fronts, and even now it remains one of the most dependable lights in my kit.

Why I Chose Orcatorch D710

At the time, I needed a light that could handle cold, low visibility quarry dives but didn’t want to spend the premium prices for technical brands. The D710 stood out for its lumen output, quality reputation, and price. I didn’t need a canister setup or adjustable beam. I just needed something that worked, and it did.

Who It Makes Sense For

This item is best suited for:

  • Recreational divers looking for an affordable and reliable primary light
  • Backup light users who want brightness without bulk

It may not be ideal for:

  • Divers who want beam adjustability

My Custom Setup or Configuration

I keep the D710 uncluttered, with only a bolt snap mounted on the tail. It lives on my left chest D-ring as a backup. No Goodman handle or mount, just simple and ready to go.

  • Bolt Snap: Basic tail-mount for quick clip and release
  • Backup Position: Left chest D-ring, always on every dive

This configuration makes it easy to reach if needed, without interfering with my primary light or inflator hose.

What It Is Like to Dive

Brightness
Excellent for quarry and night dives. Always enough light for task management or navigation.
Beam Pattern
Focused spot with moderate spill. Good for signaling or highlighting points of interest.
Reliability
Zero issues in over 100 dives. Switch and battery housing still feel new.
Backup Use
Peace of mind. Always there, always charged, always ready.

Ownership and Value

The switch, materials, and battery housing have held up without visible wear or failure over more than 100 dives. The simple push-button control and tail-mounted bolt snap make deployment straightforward. Both this light and the D720 have been dependable in my use, which is why I still trust the D710 as a backup.

The D710 has worked in cold quarry water, poor visibility, and night conditions, with a focused beam and useful peripheral spill. It has not flooded, flickered, or failed to turn on in my use, and maintenance has consisted of rinsing and charging. Its lack of beam adjustment, rather than a reliability problem, was why I moved to the D720 as my primary.
