Divesoft DNA Nitrox/Oxygen Analyzer Review
I've used the Divesoft DNA Analyzer for a full year as my primary tool for analyzing Nitrox fills. It has been with me across quarry dives, day boats, and coastal trips, and has proven consistently reliable. While it does require a smartphone to view readings, the app works without internet access and has never let me down. The analyzer runs on a single CR2450 coin cell battery, which has lasted through a full year of regular use without replacement.
- Use
- A full year of regular Nitrox analysis
- Current role
- Primary Nitrox analyzer
- Still in my kit
- Yes
The Short Version
The DNA has become a consistent part of my Nitrox workflow. Its small size, reliable readings, and quick air calibration fit the way I dive, and using my phone as its display has not caused problems for me. It lives in its original case with a marker for tank labeling and gets used before every Nitrox dive.
Would I buy it again? Yes. It fits how I dive, and I would choose it again without hesitation.
What Works
- Compact, rugged construction that travels easily
- Consistent readings and fast, reliable air calibration
- Intuitive smartphone app that works without internet access
- A single CR2450 battery lasted through a full year of regular use
- Protective case with room for my tank-labeling marker
What Doesn't
- No built-in display; reading the result requires a smartphone
- Coin-cell power means keeping a replacement battery available
Why I Chose the Divesoft DNA
I needed a Nitrox analyzer that was compact, durable, and easy to travel with. The DNA stood out for its clean design, stable calibration, and small footprint. I already trusted the brand's engineering, and I preferred replacing a CR2450 battery to dealing with charging cables.
I chose it over models with their own screens because I always have my phone with me. Using that phone as the display was a reasonable tradeoff for how little space the analyzer takes up in my kit.
What It Is Like to Use
- Calibration and Readings
- Air calibration has been fast and reliable, and readings have stayed consistent. I have not had to recalibrate it on a trip or seen it return a questionable value in my use.
- Direct Valve Sampling
- I sample directly from the tank valve without adapters or other accessories. The readings have been stable with this approach.
- Phone and App
- Setup is quick, and the app is intuitive. It works without internet access and has not let me down across quarry dives, day boats, and coastal trips.
- Battery Life
- One CR2450 coin cell lasted through a full year of regular use without replacement. I still keep the need for a spare battery in mind rather than relying on a charging cable.
My Tank-Labeling Setup
I store the analyzer in its original zip case and added a permanent marker so I can label tanks immediately after analysis. I do not use adapters or digital logging; direct valve sampling and a written tank label are the setup I use.
The case keeps the analyzer protected and the marker alongside it. This simple arrangement fits the way I dive, and I do not need anything more from an analyzer at this time.
Ownership and Travel
The casing has stayed undamaged through a year of use. Its small footprint makes it easy to bring along for quarry, boat, and coastal diving, and the protective case is useful for keeping it with the rest of my kit.
For me, it has been good value because it reliably does the job without adding complexity. I have not used flow adapters with it, so my firsthand experience here is with direct tank-valve sampling rather than every supported sampling arrangement or oxygen range.
Who It Makes Sense For
It makes sense for recreational Nitrox divers who value portability and are comfortable using a phone as part of their kit. That combination has worked well for me, especially when traveling with limited space.
I would choose a different analyzer if I wanted a built-in screen and tactile controls or did not want to use a phone around dive operations. The phone requirement is a real design tradeoff, even though it has not been a problem in my own workflow.
