Bare Ultrawarmth Glove (5mm) Review
A standout wet glove for serious divers who want warmth and dexterity without bulk. These Bare Ultrawarmth gloves fit like a second skin, stay warm in cold water, and hold up to repeated use without fraying or flushing. I’ve used them extensively in both wetsuit and drysuit dives down to the low 50s and was impressed enough to buy a backup pair. They outperform cheaper gloves by a wide margin.
- Use
- Bought a second pair as a backup
- Current role
- Wet gloves for colder wetsuit and drysuit dives
- Still in my kit
- Yes
The Short Version
These gloves are so good I bought a second backup pair in case Bare stops making them. That probably says everything.
Would I buy it again? Yes. Already did.
What Works
- Excellent fit and dexterity
- Warm in low 50s without going dry
- Durable stitching and cuff integrity
- Comfortable with both wetsuit and drysuit
What Doesn't
- Slightly more expensive than basic gloves
Why I Chose Bare Ultrawarmth Glove (5mm)
I started with the 3mm version of this glove and was surprised how well it fit compared to other brands. When I needed something for colder water, I immediately sought out the 5mm version. My previous gloves were from Aqualung and were a bad fit for my hands, bulky, loose, and already falling apart after just 10 dives. The Bare gloves felt tailor-made by comparison.
Who It Makes Sense For
This item is best suited for:
- Divers needing warmth in low 50s°F water without dry gloves
- Those who require dexterity for bolt snaps or camera controls
- Divers who switch between wetsuits and drysuits
It may not be ideal for:
- Budget-minded buyers seeking low-cost gloves
- Divers in extreme cold needing full dry gloves
What It Is Like to Dive
- Thermal Comfort
- Warm enough for low 50s Fahrenheit water without switching to dry gloves. For many dives, that’s all I needed.
- Dexterity
- The gloves strike a great balance, thick enough for warmth, but still flexible enough for bolt snaps, camera buttons, and mask adjustments.
- Fit
- Perfect for my hand shape. No bunching or extra material in the fingers.
- Durability
- Still going strong after a year of use. No seam leaks, no unraveling stitching.
- Use Case
- I prefer wet gloves with my drysuit unless the temps call for full dry. These gloves make that possible.
Ownership and Value
After a year, the stitching and cuffs remain intact, with no seam leaks or unraveling. They are easy to put on and remove even with cold fingers and work around my drysuit wrist seals. They cost more than basic gloves, but the fit and performance were good enough that I bought a backup pair.
