How long does it take to get scuba certified?
Most people can complete an entry-level Open Water Diver certification in about three to four days of active training. That time includes classroom or online study, confined-water (pool) practice, and four open-water dives under instructor supervision. Some programs spread that out over several weekends, while others run as a concentrated course over consecutive days.
The total time depends on how you choose to learn. Many dive shops now offer eLearning options that let you finish the academic portion at your own pace before class, which shortens the in-person schedule. The in-water sessions are performance-based, not time-based. You move forward once you demonstrate comfort and skill, not when the clock runs out.
