Halcyon Master SPG Review

A precision brass SPG with clean markings and a rugged build, it delivers what cheap gauges don’t: trust. I use it as my standard SPG across all configurations and it has never failed to perform. Clear readings, no bounce, and a red zone that starts at the right place.
Overall Score: 9.0 / 10
Pros & Cons
Pros | Cons |
---|---|
Red zone starts at 500 PSI | More expensive than generic SPGs |
Easy to read at any angle | Not lightweight for travel |
Brass housing with tempered glass face | No color customization |
No issues across any dive environment |
Why I Chose the Halcyon Master SPG
I tried two cheaper SPGs before settling on the Halcyon Master. One had a red zone that started too early at 1000 PSI, the other had poor visibility underwater. This one ticked every box I cared about: compact, readable, precise, and a red zone that starts right at 500 PSI. It’s also built to last.
Performance in the Water
- Visibility: Crisp markings and contrast. I can glance and get an exact read quickly, even in low light or cold water.
- Mounting: Clipped off to my left hip D-ring. Sits flat, doesn’t snag, and hoses route cleanly.
- Durability: After a year of use across quarries, Lake Michigan, cenotes, and Fiji, it still looks nearly new.
- Standardization: It’s my primary SPG across all kits and environments. I don’t rotate it out or swap configurations.
Verdict
It’s not flashy, but it does its job better than any budget option I’ve tried. After buying two other SPGs I didn’t like, I could have saved money by just getting this one first.
Would I buy it again? Absolutely.
